Popular TV is a Spanish free-to-air television network with regional broadcasting, owned by Grupo Cope . It was launched in 2005 and is present in Murcia, Cantabria, and Melilla. Its programming is generalist and is made up of news programs, movies, children's programs, documentaries, sports programs and music videos.
On May 1, 2010, Popular TV was relaunched as Popular María + Visión after Producciones Apóstol Santiago bought part of the channel's shares. However, the agreement did not last long and ended in July 2010 when the Episcopal Conference broke its agreement with Emilio Burillo Azcárraga, so the channel returned to its original name.
Due to the purchase of 51% of Trece by the Episcopal Conference, it decided to integrate the broadcasts of Popular TV and TRECE before the summer of 2011 to save on expenses and eliminate duplicate programming on both networks. At that time, some regional programs that had been broadcast by Popular TV were kept on the screen. Most of the programming was transmitted simultaneously between the national signal and the regional ones. Therefore, some Popular TV affiliates began to be called TRECE.
The station in Madrid was the first to adopt the name TRECE Madrid as of April 30, 2011. Furthermore, on June 30 of the same year, the cable operator ONO eliminated the channel from its programming grid. Likewise, it was available from the satellite provider Digital + until its elimination. On June 1, 2017, TRECE Madrid returned to take the name of Popular TV Madrid and stopped broadcasting TRECE programming, in September 2017 it returned to broadcast TRECE programming.
