You are watching L1mburg channel from Netherlands. The channel's category is Other and the speaking language is Dutch.

L1 is a public regional radio and television channel in the Dutch province of Limburg . L1 mainly speaks Limburgish and Dutch .

The first regional radio station in Limburg, the Regionale Omroep Zuid ( ROZ ), started broadcasting on December 24, 1945 . Until 1989, the ROZ was part of the Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS). With the entry into force of the new Media Act in 1988, whereby the NOS divested a number of services, including its Facility Management, which became part of the Netherlands Broadcasting Production Company (NOB), the ROZ (as well as all other regional broadcasters that broadcast under the NOS flag) continued as an independent regional broadcaster under the new name Omroep Limburg. In January 1997 the commercial station TV8 startedLimburg with broadcast. Omroep Limburg followed later that year with public regional television . Both channels had to share their frequencies due to scarcity on the regional cable network. From 7.15 am to 7.15 pm the channel was in use by Omroep Limburg and from 7.15 pm to 7.15 am the next morning TV8 Limburg broadcasted it.

Because the Media Authority had determined that the image had to be black for half an hour between the two stations, an unworkable situation arose. The fact that two different stations broadcast an equivalent program on the same 'network' also prompted discussions to establish a close collaboration. These talks led to the fact that in June 1999 the broadcasters started working together in the new private / public company L1 Radio and Television.

There could be no question of a legal merger, because the Media Act did not allow a public broadcaster to merge with a commercial broadcaster. Since September 2014, L1 has been providing news, sports, weather and traffic through the 1Limburg brand (web and app). Until the beginning of 2017, 1Limburg was a partnership with the Limburg daily newspapers 1Limburg .
